Guess who’s coming to dinner?

At the Metropolitan Opera, the most memorable performances are usually executed with great renditions of the original standards. The Exterminating Angel – to be transmitted Live in HD from the Met in New York to Carib 5, at 12:55 a.m., this Saturday hews closely to Luis Buñuel’s 1962 film of the same name, which is based on a group of high-class individuals at a dinner party gone awry.

Rod Gilfry as Alberto Roc, Amanda Echalaz as Lucia de Nobile, and Christine Rice as Blanca Delgado in Adès’ The Exterminating Angel.

Thomas Adès, conductor of the opera is dubbed the foremost composer of modern time. He conducts his own adventurous new opera, with the intention of bringing the cumulative power of theatre and music to the Metropolitan Opera.

The production, also directed by Tom Cairns, brings a vivid creation while retaining Buñuel’s impeccable sense of the bizarre. It also features set and costume by Hildegard Bechtler, lighting design by Jon Clark, projections by Tal Yarden, and choreography by Amir Hosseinpour.

Tickets are on sale for The Met Opera’s 2017-18 Season at the box office via the web at, with any major credit or debit card.
